MESSAGE FROM DIRECTOR GENERAL OF DIRECTORATE GENERAL OF BASIC EDUCATION COMMUNITY SCHOOLS (BECS)
Education is the key to the success of every nation. It is an undeniable fact that education is the most important element to overall behavior change in the lives of individuals and the society. The Government of Pakistan has made free education up to secondary level mandatory. Despite of all efforts, there are still more than 22 million children of school-going age are out of school (OOSC).
Directorate General of Basic Education Community School has collected real time data of OOSC age 4-9 years and established Basic Education Community Schools and also age 9-16 years children for establishment of “Accelerated Learning Program (ALP) Centers”.
BECS Program of Federal Government aims at educating the millions of Out-Of-School-Children (OOSC) who are deprived of this fundamental right. BECS program is the best option, due to its mandate, design, Non-Formal Education, and its offices and schools in ICT, AJK and GB, to make accelerated efforts to achieve the UPE/ SDG targets by educating Out-of-School-Children and increasing literacy rate.
Advocacy and Communication activities are vitally important for BECS as they not only create awareness about the need for education in the overall development of the country, and generate demand by informing and mobilizing society and community members. Then A&C activities address the issues around access, and inform communities about the availability of this wonderful opportunity by the Government, so that these Out-Of-School-Children can be admitted in BECS Schools near their homes.
Federal Government is committed to fulfill its obligation of providing free and compulsory education to the children to their doorsteps.
